On July 6th and 7th, Bordeaux resonated with the rhythms of jeu de paume as it hosted the third edition of the Women's French Championship, the Margot de Hainaut Trophy. This event was a showcase of excellent performances, celebrating the passion and determination of the best French female players.
A High-Level Competition
This year, eight players from all over France competed, proudly representing their respective clubs. We are proud that all French clubs were in attendance. This tournament demonstrated the rise of women's jeu de paume, offering a splendid spectacle for the sport's enthusiasts.
The matches were intense, culminating in the highly anticipated showdown to determine who would challenge Lea Van Der Zwalmen, the reigning champion and world number 2. Lucie Grosset brilliantly won this first phase against Amy Wintersteen, earning the right to challenge Lea in the final.
Highlights and Results
The semi-finals were outstanding, with intense and balanced confrontations, especially the doubles final between Lucie Grosset & Cécile Alchuteguy versus Bernadette Bidouze & Amy Wintersteen. Cécile, in addition to being the president of Euskal Real Tennis (Basque Country club), plays a key role in the CFCP with the FFT. Her dedication and enthusiasm were widely praised.
In the final, Lea Van Der Zwalmen confirmed her supremacy by winning her third consecutive title, defeating Lucie Grosset 8/2. In doubles, Lucie and Cécile won against Amy and Bernadette with a score of 10/6, once again demonstrating their talent and cohesion.
A Great Atmosphere
The atmosphere throughout the tournament was friendly and warm, with many smiles on the court showing that this sport is, above all, a game. The matches were played in a spirit of camaraderie and fair competition, offering a memorable spectacle to all participants.
Thanks
A big thank you to the CFCP for their unwavering support, to Puyodebat for the prizes, and to Pierre Oteiza for the delicious charcuterie boards served during lunches. We also want to thank all the players for their participation and dedication.
